Ashlee Anderson Receives 2014 Ruhr Fellowship
Ashlee Anderson, a rising senior in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics (MEAM), is a recipient of a 2014 Ruhr Fellowship. Anderson, from Kingston, Jamaica, is also pursuing a minor in Energy and Sustainability at Penn Engineering.
Ruhr Fellows are selected from students attending Princeton University, the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to experience a unique two-month summer program and explore the cultural, industrial, and academic landscape of the Ruhr Area in Germany. The program is overseen by an alliance of three German universities, TU Dortmund University, Ruhr-Universität Bochum and the University of Duisburg-Essen.
During the first month of the fellowship, Anderson will take part in an intensive language and culture program hosted by the University Duisburg-Essen. During the second month, she will have an internship in one of the partnering German companies. The application process for these fellowships is competitive, and Anderson was one of only 14 students chosen to participate in the program.
