Penn Engineers Shine at Venture Lab Startup Challenge
At the 2026 Venture Lab Startup Challenge, Cloak earned the $75,000 Perlman Grand Prize. Founded by Penn Engineering student Rishi Ambavanekar (M&T’29) and Tyler Sacharow (C’29), Cloak plans to work with publishers of content ranging from news to novels to screenplays to protect against AI scraping. For online publishers, this creates a major opportunity to block or monetize AI activity.
Cloak was selected from 100-plus ventures and eight finalist teams who pitched today at Tangen Hall in front of alumni judges and a packed audience.

A New Hub for AI-Driven RNA Research
To kick off AI month at Penn, guests from across the University of Pennsylvania and beyond celebrated the opening of the U.S. National Science Foundation Artificial Intelligence-driven RNA BioFoundry (NSF AIRFoundry), an $18-million effort to leverage AI to improve, accelerate and scale the design, manufacture and delivery of RNA.

Tiny, Knotted Robots Jump, Fly and Plant Seeds
A knotted fiber that snaps itself open can launch like a spring. By combining Kevlar and liquid crystal elastomers, researchers created tiny soft robots that jump, spin and even plant seeds. Their motion is programmed through knot design and triggered by heat, offering a new approach to autonomous systems.
